Ed Hale is a lifelong Marylander, born in East Baltimore and raised in a blue-collar family where hard work was a way of life. The oldest of five, the son of a BGE lineman and a teaching assistant, Ed got his start in the boiler room at Bethlehem Steel before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. He didn’t inherit success. He built it.
From shipping and logistics to banking and real estate, Ed has spent his life creating opportunities across Maryland. He developed Canton Crossing, built Port East Transfer, and helped lead the turnaround of the Bank of Baltimore.
He went on to build First Mariner Bank into a billion-dollar regional institution, guiding it through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression while hundreds of banks across the country failed.
For nearly 30 years, Ed has owned and led the Baltimore Blast, building one of the most successful franchises in indoor soccer and a lasting source of pride for Maryland. Across his career, he has built hundreds of buildings, employed thousands of Marylanders, and consistently reinvested in the communities he calls home.
Outside of business, Ed is an avid outdoorsman and a proud Maryland farm owner on the Eastern Shore. He is a strong advocate for Maryland’s farmers and watermen, industries that are the backbone of our state’s heritage and critical to its future. He understands firsthand the challenges they face and is committed to protecting their way of life.
Ed Hale isn’t a career politician. He’s a proven builder and results-driven leader. He understands what it takes to grow businesses, meet a payroll, and make tough decisions when it matters most.
